Trek CX Cup Joins USCX Series
National cyclocross series now on four consecutive weekends starting in September
Trek Bicycle is joining the USCX series as the title sponsor. After not pursuing a World Cup slot for this year, Trek is turning its experience and resources towards domestic racing and helping support the USCX series now in its fourth year.
The series will now be four consecutive weeks, which we believe will make for a more cohesive series, and hopefully will attract more European riders looking for early-season points and competitive racing. With the World Cup calendar not starting until the end of November, European riders can travel to the US, compete for a month in the USCX and be back to Europe with plenty of time to focus on the World Cup and other series.
For domestic racers, having an early-season national series is huge. This will be the first time that front runners in the USCX do not have to choose between finishing the series or going to Europe to compete in the World Cup. Trek CX Cup replaces Really Rad as the final round of the USCX. Really Rad will remain on the calendar as a UCI event, just not part of the USCX.
One change for this season is that there will be no live coverage of the USCX. We will have coverage here, but no livestream.
The four USCX dates are:
Round 1: GO Cross, Roanoke, Virginia, September 14/15
Round 2: Rochester Cyclocross, Rochester, New York, September 21/22
Round 3: Charm City, Baltimore, Maryland, September 28/29
Round 4: Trek CX Cup, Waterloo, Wisconsin, October 5/6.
Here is the full press release from Trek:
Trek Bicycle as the series title sponsor - TREK CX CUP as the 4th race in the series
USCX has added the TREK CX CUP as the series final race weekend on October 4th - 6th at the Trek headquarters in Waterloo, Wisconsin, which creates 4 consecutive races for the 2024 series.
Trek Bicycle has also acquired the title sponsorship for the USCX cyclocross series, now named the TREK USCX.
With the series going into its fourth year in 2024, Series Director, Scott Page said, “I am amped that Waterloo will be our last stop on the series as our final race, and very appreciative that the Trek brand is attaching its name to USCX.”
2024 will be the first year that the series has all the events on four straight weekends and series organizers believe this will be more attractive for racers at all levels. All the events will feature amateur racing, elite racing and will be conducted under the UCI C1 Saturday and UCI C2 Sunday format. GoCross in Roanoke, Virginia will start the series on the weekend of September 14 and 15 followed by Rochester Cyclocross in Rochester, New York on September 21 and 22. The next weekend brings the series to Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland on September [28 and 29] with the final event taking place at the TREK CX CUP at Trek Headquarters in Waterloo, Wisconsin on October 5 and 6. The consecutive 8 race-day format will entice more European athletes to attend the series.
The 2024 Trek CX Cup, "Battle among the Cattle" is way more than a cyclocross race; it’s a full weekend of fun! While there is no World Cup in the 2024 event line-up, there is plenty of cyclocross racing and fun to be had. The year’s best cyclocross event kicks off with amateur races on Friday, USCX races on Saturday and Sunday, “Legends Races” where costumes are the norm and fun is the only objective, kid’s events featuring a mini-CX course, and more.
Yeah! A USA CX series I can get excited about. We don’t need a Word Cup in the States based on the current landscape for CX. Thanks Trek! Let’s start from the basics again and start a new. I’ll be at all four.
That’s too bad about the TV coverage. I was hoping Trek bringing their money in would make the coverage better, and instead we lose it altogether 😢
