Holmgren and Amos Open Nove Mesto World Cup With U23 XCC Wins
Riley Amos keeps unbeaten streak alive
Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek), the junior MTB cross-country world champion, finished her first MTB World Cup race of the year with a definitive win in the women’s U23 short track race at Nove Mesto1. Holmgren took the lead for good with three laps to go and won with a nine-second gap over Ella Maclean-Howell (GBR) and Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli). Kira Böhm (Cube Factory Racing), who won the first two World Cup U23 XCC rounds in Brazil, finished 17th.
In the men’s race, Riley Amos (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) continued his XCC dominance following up two U23 World Cup wins in Brazil and an elite XCC Pan-American Championship victory in Utah, with a last-lap win in Nove Mesto. Amos battled Dario Lillo (Giant Factory Off-Road Team-XC) to the line, beating the Swiss rider by one second. Luke Weidmann (Thömus Maxon) finished third. Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing) finished three seconds back in sixth.
