Now in its second year, the USCX cyclocross series will offer a $15,000 series overall prize purse split evenly between the men’s and women’s fields. The race series also changed its roster of events adding GO Cross and Really Rad Festival. The two new events replace Jingle Cross and Kings CX and join Rochester CX and Charm City Cross.
Along with the addition of a prize purse for the series, the point distribution will change to give more points to the top three finishers of each race. Kerry Werner and Caroline Mani won the series in 2021.
Last year, GCN broadcasted all four events of the USCX. Although no mention of GCN appeared in the USCX press release when asked, the series organizers said that it was too early to announce any information on a livestream, but they were optimistic that GCN would be involved for the coming season.
Here is the full press release from the USCX. We will share more details as they become known.
International Cyclocross Series Returns to North America
The USCX Series Expands to Three Months in Four Host Cities
Four UCI International Class 1 cyclocross races in North America have combined to create the 2nd Annual USCX Cyclocross Series. Series Founders, Scott Page, Executive Director of Rochester Cyclocross and John Meehan, Executive Director of Jingle Cross have added two new events to the series.
Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Deschutes Brewery, and the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross both recently upgraded to the UCI Class 1 status for 2022 and will round out the schedule and complete the series. The series spans three months in four cities. Four cities who’s cyclocross history runs thick and rich, like the mud underneath the tires on race day.
New for 2022, the USCX Series has committed to a $15,000 overall purse for the Men’s and Women’s Elite fields split equally at $7,500 Men & $7,500 Women. The series has also re-formatted its points structure to give additional points to the top 3 in each race. The series points and leader board will be hosted on uscx.us throughout the series for all elite and amateur competing athletes.
Negotiations are in the final stages to produce a livestream for each event. Series Founders understand this is a very important media element for its’ racer and fan audience. A common goal of all the USCX Directors is to create more consistency in marketing the events and work more with the athletes. “Offering live streaming of all the UCI Elite USCX races is a step in the right direction for the series.” says Meehan.
“Our overall goal is to host four weekends of premier racing for both elite and amateur fields in the amazing sport of cyclocross,” said Page. “We want to give these incredible athletes the platform they need, and we believe integrating these four events does that.”
The USCX cyclocross series schedule begins in Roanoke Virginia at Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Deschutes Brewery on September 17th & 18th, then travels to Rochester, New York for the second event in the series, Rochester Cyclocross on September 24th & 25th. The series then moves to Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland the following weekend of October 1st & 2nd and concludes five weeks later in Falmouth Massachusetts at the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross on November 5th & 6th.
The USCX Cyclocross Series will feature some of the world’s top male and female cyclocross racers. Race organizers expect professional racers attending from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the USA.
All events plan on having food trucks, beer gardens, music, professional announcers and children’s activities. Covid-19 protocols will be in place at each event depending on the requirements and guidance of each individual state – please check each event’s website for details.
