U.S. Cyclocross Nationals Heading Back to Hartford in December 2022
CX Nats returns to the East Coast and the location of the January 2017 event
When we left DuPage County and Cyclocross Nationals back in December, we did not know where the 2022 edition of the event would be held.
Last week, USA Cycling announced the 2022 CX Nats are heading back to Hartford, Connecticut December 6 through 11 of this year.
Hartford hosted the January 2017 edition of the event at Riverside Park in the central Connecticut city. Folks have already been asking about the course, and if the venue is indeed again Riverside Park, the course there proved to be, in my opinion, sneaky good and challenging. Of course it also helped that there was a blizzard before the weekend’s races.

If you’re looking for a Monday morning distraction, check out this story about the U23 Men’s race at Hartford Nationals featuring Lance Haidet, Gage Hecht, and Maxx Chance, which is probably one of my favorite long-form stories I’ve done.
We’ll have more for you about the 2022 Nationals when … we have more.
So, why would we not use Fayetteville as the home to CX Nats? Hartford was crazy with the “sledding hill” but we now have a UCI level course that could be the home…. Part of the lunacy of USAC and the reason we trail in so many disciplines is our inability to stick with winners - Fayetteville was awesome and it makes little sense to not try to establish a foundation from which US cross can be grown…. The pay of the USAC folks should be commensurate to the financial success of the events, until such happens, USAC will look as silly as the IOC.
