Kelsey Urban (Team 31) and Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing) won the elite U.S. Short Track National Championships on Sunday after winning cross-country titles on Saturday.
Urban stayed near the front all race along with Kate Courtney (Scott-SRAM MTB Team), Gwendalyn Gibson (Trek Factory Racing) and Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing). On the final lap, Munro fell off the pace and the remaining trio rode the long straight that paralleled the finishing chute together.
At the end of the straight, the course turned right into a grassy climbing section. Urban made her move there and was able to get a gap, which she held to the end to take the win. Courtney finished second, and Gibson finished third.
Riley took off from the start in the men's elite race and never looked back. He held off the entire field to take the win easily. Robbie Day (Bear National Team) finished second, and Devon Feehan finished third.
That’s a wrap on the 2024 USA Cycling MTB National Championships. See you next year in Roanoke, Virginia.
