After three editions, this event has cemented itself as one of my favorites on the World Cup calendar, especially among the few events each season that require plane travel. The venue and course are great. The light is often amazing despite constantly changing throughout the day. And the crowd is engaged and very funny, even if they do oddly embrace the scourge of international sport: the dreaded vuvuzela.
I am rarely nervous when photographing a race. I have done this enough that I feel pretty confident that I will get everything I need no matter how many times I mess up out on the course. But when an American rider is coming into the finish straight looking good for the win, I really feel the pressure. This weekend, I was lucky enough to have that feeling when Lidia Cusack caught early leader Lison Desprez and held her off to win the Junior Women’s race.
I normally do a gallery of only the elites, but this week, I was inspired to include all categories.
Great pics! Thanks for your hard work. And you're right those vuvuzelas are a menace!
You should indeed feel confident in your ability to capture great images (as this gallery proves). Chapeau!
