Team USA scores first ever gold in mixed team relay
It’s UCI Mountainbike World Championships week from Andorra, and before I could even get a preview up, Team USA went out and won themselves a closet full of rainbow-striped jerseys by beating France in the mixed team relay. Unfortunately, this event isn’t televised, or I would’ve put up a spoiler warning.
In the race, France and Italy battled for the lead for the first several laps, with the USA steadily closing the gap. The race came down to the final lap when Christopher Blevins (Specialized Factory Racing) put in the fastest lap of the day (11:20) to catch and pass France’s Mathis Azzaro.
Joining Blevins on Team USA’s world championship squad were Brayden Johnson (Santa Cruz RockShox Pro Team), Nicholas Konecny (Bear National Team), Haley Batten (Specialized Factory Racing), Vida Lopez de San Roman (Bear National Team) and Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing).
