I know Les Gets is pronounced leh-zhay, but every time I see it written out all I can think of is Joe Pesci in Lethal Weapon 2, or more specifically Leo Getz. Whatever you need, Leo Getz. And what we getz is another full weekend of World Cup MTB action starting on Friday.
Les Gets is an XC and DH weekend, so all XC racing is condensed into Friday and Sunday. As always, the elite XCC races and all of the XCO events will be televised. B/R Sports on Max carries coverage in the US. Supplemental coverage is on the Whoop UCI World Series MTB YouTube page.
Here is the schedule with local (France) times. The U.S. East Coast is six hours behind Les Gets.
In the official race book, organizers must include a map of the tracks for each event. Some events spend a lot of time putting together elaborate maps showing you exactly what to expect. Others don’t. I’ll let you decide which end of the spectrum Les Gets falls.
Here is Puck Pieterse's recon lap from last year to give you a better idea of what to expect in the XCO race. If she updates it with a new video, I'll update the post.
And here are the men’s highlights from last year’s XCC to get an idea of what that track looks like. The rocks at the end and the squirrely switchback climbs could be key.
With the Olympics so close, it’s hard to know what to expect from the racing this weekend. Some may be going all out, others may be in the middle of training blocks, and some (like Haley Batten) have all eyes on Paris and won’t be toeing the line this weekend.
Here are your start lists for the XCO.
Speaking of start lists and Olympics prep…..I still find it bizarre that Pidders did Crans-Montana prior to the Tour (where he is off to a slow start). A very high risk course and seemingly a totally different effort profile. Love that he seems to be able to chart his own course though.
