Katie Compton Tests Positive for Anabolic Agent, Receives Four-Year Ban
The 15-time U.S. cyclocross national champion tested positive for a banned substance last September
Wednesday, the cyclocross world was rocked when USADA announced that 15-time U.S. cyclocross national champion Katie Compton tested positive for an anabolic agent, and as a result, was given a four-year ban from the sport.
The positive test was an out-of-competition test taken on September 16, 2020, prior to the 2020-21 cyclocross season. From the USADA release, “Her urine sample was analyzed using a specialized test, known as Carbon Isotope Ratio testing, that differentiates between anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) naturally produced by the body and prohibited anabolic agents of external origin.”
Compton’s four-year ban from competition was dated to the date of her positive test, but it is ultimately a moot point because Compton was planning on retiring from the sport, which she indicated in a statement she issued:
Like many in the cyclocross community, we are shocked and saddened by this news. We will just leave it at that for now.
