Johnston and Amos Take U23 XCC Wins at Crans-Montana World Cup
Bjorn Riley finishes second as American duo swap Val di Sole short-track results
Emily Johnston (Trek Future Racing) battled Carla Hahn (Lexware Mountainbike Team) for the first three laps of the women’s U23 XCC short-track race at the Crans-Montana World Cup before pulling away in lap four. Johnston secured an eight-second lead on the penultimate lap and maintained a five-second gap at the finish to take the win. Hahn finished second, with Madigan Munro (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) in third.
Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek), who dominated the women’s U23 field at the Nove Mesto and Val di Sole World Cups, is not racing Crans-Montana.
In the U23 men’s race, Riley Amos (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) regained the XCC top spot after Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing) broke Amos’ season-long unbeaten streak in Val di Sole. Bjorn Riley showed he was again among the strongest in the field but could not match Riley Amos’ attack on the final lap. Bjorn Riley finished second, two seconds off the pace. Third-place finisher Luca Martin (Orbea Factory Team) finished in third five seconds back.
