Böhm and Amos Repeat With U23 XCC Wins in Araxá World Cup
Kira Böhm (Cube Factory Racing) and Riley Amos (Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli) continued to shine, extending their short-track winning streaks from last week’s U23 XCC wins in Mairoparā to victories at round two of the Whoop MTB World Cup in Araxá.
Böhm stayed patient for the first three laps of the five-lap race, sitting in second and third place during the relatively laps that clocked in at just under 4 minutes each. Böhm took to the front on lap four and put in the fastest lap of the day. She extended her lead in the final lap, taking the win by four seconds.
Emily Johnston (Trek Future Racing) stayed in the top 10 for most of the race before surging in the finale to take second. Carla Hahn (Lexware Mountainbike Team) grabbed third.
In the men’s U23 XCC race, the American Rileys waited until the final lap of the six-lap race to turn on the jets and take first and second place. Riley Amos sat in the pack, not wasting any energy before shaving more than 15 seconds off the average lap time to put in a blazing 2:57 time on the final lap to win by three seconds. Bjorn Riley (Trek Future Racing) bested Luke Wiedmann (Thömus Maxon) to take second.
